Shea Business and Empowerment Program (SBEP)

Through the Shea Business and Empowerment Program (SBEP) run by the Global Shea Alliance and Mastercard Foundation, Wuntira Agribusiness Ventures (WAV) has improved and enhanced the shea commodities production of 1,600 rural women and female youth in the northern region.

The SBEP project empowered WAV with a grant to formally train 1,600 beneficiaries in Shea Parkland conservation and regeneration techniques, Cooperative Development and Governance, Business Management, Financial Literacy, and Quality Shea Aggregation.

After the capacity-building training, 1,600 rural women, predominantly female youth, formed two formal cooperatives. Since 2023, these two cooperatives have operated independently. They trade with sustainable markets and public and private credit institutions, which WAV links to as buyers and creditors.

Thanks to the Global Shea Alliance, Aaron Adu, and the Mastercard Foundation for the opportunity granted to these milestones achieved by these rural groups. (11/3/2022)
