Wuntira Agri Foundation

Wuntira Agri Foundation provides capacity building for women smallholder farmers and shea nut collectors. In addition to training in good agricultural practices and the proper collection and storage of shea nuts, Wuntira Foundation also helps the rural women establish cooperatives that increase their market power.

Foundation staff are skilled at reaching women who lack formal education. Training content is provided in an interactive way, with demonstrations and role playing as well as group discussions and repetition. The goal is for the participants to internalize the material over time and apply it to their own lives.

Training is provided in Dagbani and can be provided in English as well.

Wuntira Foundation is interlinked with the business end, which underwrites part of the cost of a field worker who provides on-going support to the cooperatives. Grant funding has also covered the cost of some of the trainings.

On the other side, Wuntira Foundation improves the quality and quantity of commodities that WAV is able to purchase.

We are gradually bridging the skills and understanding gaps among these rural women. Initially their learning participation level was low, and that affects their understanding, but currently they are active and happy in contributing to the success of the training activities.

Our effectiveness

We see the impact of our training in how the cooperatives flourish and how the farmers and shea nut collectors increase their yields – and incomes.

In one region where comprehensive training was held, the amount of nuts collected tripled, the price collectors received was 70% higher and their total income was five times as in prior years.
