Since our inception, WAV has worked with rural women and youth farmer groups within the agricultural value chain in the northern region. Currently, in our database, we are directly connected to about 2,000 pri-urban rural women and youth smallholder farmers, including people with disabilities.
In 2020, we (WAV) received a grant from GIZ Ghana to increase the capacity of the storage facility and improve its storage facility services for our targeted beneficiaries, who are the youth and women small-scale farmers and Shea collectors, aggregators, and agro-processors in the peri-urban and rural farming communities in the Karaga district in the northern region of Ghana. In addition, part of the funds was to procure pallets and sags to improve the packaging of crops/commodities. It was a six (6) months’ timeline project and was successfully implemented.
In 2023, we (WAV) received another competitive grant award from the Global Shea Alliance (GSA), sponsored by MasterCard Foundation (MCF). The funding was awarded to form one (1) formal Shea business cooperative of 600 youth and women members.
